Negative Thoughts And Motivation

July 27, 2020/in Blog, Motivation, Philosophy

Everyone experience negative thoughts and anyone that tells you that you can eradicate them completely is lying. There are so many things that can lead to negative thinking. If you are having financial problems for example, then this is very likely to start a spiral of negative thinking.

People have different ways of approaching adversity. Some people will face their problems and throw their shoulders back to drive them forward. Other people will take the opposite approach and will just slump around in a lethargic way and think even more negative thoughts about their problem.Everyone experience negative thoughts

The way that you choose to approach life’s adversities will be determined by your development over the years. You will either tend to be a pessimist or an optimist. If you are pessimistic then you are going to experience more negative thinking than optimists.

Here are some typical negative thoughts that will cause your motivation to nosedive:

What’s the Point of Goal Setting?

A lot of people will think to themselves “there is no point in me setting goals because I will never achieve them”. The problem with this is that without a goal your motivation levels are likely to remain pretty low.

If you don’t have something to drive you in life then you are not going to take any action. Just taking the time out to think about setting new goals is very likely to give your motivation a boost.

I Failed in the Past

This is another classic negative thought that can really drive down your motivation levels. Everybody has failed at something in the past. But some people continually dwell on this by thinking “I tried that before and I failed at it” or similar.

The past is there for you to learn from. That’s all you need it for – so learn the lessons and move on. Letting go of the past is one of the best things you can do. A person that continually dwells in the past is likely to have very low levels of motivation.

Why Is This Happening to Me?

Some people focus on the bad things that are happening in their life. They have thoughts such as “I have so many problems in my life” and then ask themselves the wrong questions like “why is this happening to me?”

Most of the time, these individuals will have very little motivation for anything other than existing. They are resistant to any form of change and believe that the world is out to get them. So instead of asking yourself “why do these things happen to me?” try asking “what can I do to make my life better?”

I Don’t Want People to Think Badly of Me

So many people spend their lives worrying about what other people think of them. They can only raise their motivation levels if they have the green light from others. This is not a good place to be. With this kind of negative thinking, you will be fearful of trying anything new just in case you fail.

If you take nothing else away from this article then stop seeking the approval of others before you do anything in your life. You need to change your thought process so that you are prepared to do things for you. It won’t be an easy journey if you have been doing this for years but it will certainly be a worthwhile one.

While stress is a natural physical and mental reaction to your life experiences, it can be extremely detrimental to your health. So, how can you start reducing the amount of stress in your life?
