April 10, 2019/in Belly Fat Burning Foods, Blog, Nutritional Consultant

We all know about the foods that make us fat – the ones we should not eat. We know we should cut down on the sodas and sugary drinks; the French fries; the chocolates; the fast food, but we are not always told what foods we can eat to get our weight down.

Sure, we can eat salads, fruit and vegetables and the grain pieces of bread but what are the some of specific foods that actually reduce belly fat? Do they actually exist and if so, how hard are they to get and eat? In fact, there are such things as fat burning foods. Read more

How to Make Up for a Lack of Heavy Weights When Training From Home

March 14, 2019/in Blog, Home Workout Advice, Personal Training

When you start training from home, one of the biggest challenges is making up for a lack of true heavyweights. As you get better and you build up your home gym, there’s a chance you might eventually be able to stock it with a bench press and load a good 100kg onto that. But this costs a lot of money and involves committing a lot of space for your new home gym.

Most of us won’t have that luxury, to begin with, them and that means we’re going to be training with far fewer resources and much less weight. With that in mind, the question then becomes how you can challenge your body significantly, even without having that much weight to pile onto the bar. Let’s take a look… Read more

The Need for Bodybuilding Software

March 8, 2019/in Blog, Body Building 101, Fitness Programs

Is bodybuilding software worth the time and money investment? Only if you want a sleek and attractive body it is! While it would seem that bodybuilding is the realm of heavy lifting, strict dieting and heavy cardio, such a threefold definition is missing a very important fourth component: knowledge.

That is to say, it is not enough to merely lift, run and eat. A person looking to enhance his or her pursuits on the body building circuit must be empowered with the proper knowledge of how to PROPERLY lift weights, eat right and perform cardio. This is where informational body building software is very important. Read more

Do Natural Skin Care Products Really Work?

February 22, 2019/in Blog, Functional strength, Personal Training

The constant concern and the nagging issues about skin have led to awareness among people concerning their skin. As a result, several skin care product manufacturers have inculcated natural substances as opposed to synthetic materials in their product formula.

The harmful side-effects of synthetic substances have been known to be instant irritation in some cases and long-term effects in some others. This is where the natural skin care products step in. The variety and effectiveness of these natural products render synthetic substance products worthless.

The Best Household Items You Can Use to Create Challenging Bodyweight Exercises

February 8, 2019/in Blog, Personal Training, Total Body Transformation

If you want to train your strength using just your bodyweight, then there are a vast range of different exercises you can use. One of the best parts? You don’t need any equipment to get started.

But don’t make the mistake of thinking that bodyweight training always means ‘without equipment’. Often you’ll use equipment to enhance your bodyweight routines and perhaps the most obvious example of this is a pull-up bar or a dipping station. With either of these two items, you can get a much more intensive and effective workout in and thereby build muscle faster.

bodyweight

But it’s not just pull up bars and dipping stations you can use. In fact, one of the great things about training with bodyweight is just how versatile it is. Anything you can hang off of or lean on can become a piece of equipment to train with and it will surprise you just how much of a difference something like that can make.

Here are some pretty compelling examples…

Chairs

Chairs can easily become dipping stations if you position two opposite one another. At the same time, they can also provide something for you to put your back leg on when doing lunges, or they can allow you to jump straight up onto them. Likewise, chairs can be arranged in a triangle in order to do an ‘increased range of motion push-ups’. These are simply push-ups, except you are dipping down further than level with your hands.

Cans

Take two cans of coke and you can create very convincing push-up stands. Place one palm on each and you now have to engage your forearm strength as well as your balance and core in order to perform a push up as normal!

Towels

A towel is actually an incredibly versatile piece of training equipment. Hanging from a doorframe, this can provide something for you to hold while performing neutral grip pull-ups which will also train your grip. Likewise, you can use it to perform tricep extensions in the same position or you can trap it in a door and lean back in order to perform leaning back rows.

Punch Bag

A punch bag is an actual piece of training equipment that can be fantastic when combined with a usual bodyweight workout. This is an example of resistance cardio and one of the best ways to build muscle, burn fat and get your hormones pumping. What makes a punch bag so effective is that you are accelerating through the movement. This means that you’re engaging all those fast twitch fibers just as you would when lifting heavy weights!

Skateboard

Instead of an ab roller, consider using a skateboard. You can then also use this to perform crawls along the ground (for pec training) as well as many other wonderful exercises that require one or two limbs to slide along the ground or move independently from the rest of your body.

And this is just scratching the surface! Take a look around you and see what else can be turned into a piece of training equipment!

What Every Dieter Needs to Know (Weight Loss Tips)

January 17, 2019/in Blog, Dieting Advice, Nutritional Consultant

Weight loss is definitely not on the list of easy things to do in life. It takes hard work and it can even get frustrating from time to time. No doubt there are times when you feel like you are at your wits’ end when it comes to losing weight.

While you know that exercise and eating right are part of the deal, it is easy to hit a slump. What you really need are some helpful diet tips for weight loss. Many people have found tips that have helped them find what they were missing in their weight loss plan. Here are three to get you started.

Tip #1 – Start a Food Diary

Sure, you already know that eating right is important but you may not actually realize what you are eating every day. One of the most effective diet tips for weight loss is to keep a food diary every day. You simply write down everything you eat all day … even that little taste of batter you eat while baking cookies. At the end of the day you may be surprised what you ate throughout the day. Taking a look at your diary will help you see where you need to make some changes in your diet.

Tip #2 – Focus on Health Not on Thin

Okay, so you want to lose weight but too many people, women especially, focus on being thin and not on being healthy. You want to make sure that you are eating foods that will improve the health of your body not just on eating what you think may make you thin. If you focus on health then the weight loss is sure to follow.

Tip #3 – Don’t Go Hungry

If you are trying to lose weight it is important that you never let your body go hungry. Sounds counterproductive, right? Not really. You see, when you eat something small every few hours, you keep your body from feeling extreme hunger. When you feel really hungry you are more likely to sit down and eat a lot. So instead just eat a small healthy snack in between meals to keep hunger at bay.

Finding great diet tips that work can help you along your weight loss journey. Even if you are feeling like you have hit a plateau, remember that there are excellent tips available that can help you get out of your rut and back on your way to losing weight.

How You Can Control How Fast (or Slowly) You Age

May 14, 2018/in Blog, Healthy Aging, Personal Training

No one wants to get older but unfortunately, until they discover an elixir of youth, it’s fairly unavoidable.
But just because you have to get older, no one said you had to do it quickly. And no one said you couldn’t age well and keep your youthful good looks, energy and health!

Many of us make the assumption that getting old automatically has to mean getting covered in wrinkles, losing our ability to walk around and eventually developing incontinence and dementia. As it happens though, none of the-se things are inevitable and most of them are only partially related to age!And you can see this too just by looking around!

aging

While some people seem to be struggling to stand up straight and remember their name at age 65, others are still playing sports and writing books well into their 80s and 90s. Is the difference entirely genetic? Not at all! In fact, there are numerous lifestyle changes that can make all the difference to the way you feel as you age and many of the problems that are associated with old-age can actually be avoided entirely.

So yeah, Aging is still inevitable. But the way you age is almost entirely up to you! The difference comes down to your knowledge and your ability to apply that knowledge to make the most of your own body and health. YOU have the choice and the sooner you take action, the more effectively you can stave off the most unappealing aspects of getting older.

Yes, that’s right, this isn’t just a book for ‘old people’. It’s for young people too. In fact, it’s more aimed at young people because you are the ones who have the time to ensure you get the very most out of your body and mind as you get older.

But How Do You Slow Aging?

Anyone can claim that Aging is something you have control over. The hard part is backing that claim up with some hard evidence. How can you really slow down your Aging? And how can your decisions end up putting your body in ‘fast forward’ mode?

Here are some examples…

Mobility

A lot of people will tell you that your knees have a finite amount of time be-fore they start to tire out. The same goes for your back. But more and more, we’re discovering that’s not true. The ‘functional strength’ crowd are making it very apparent that you can keep on training into old age and that in fact, things like running should give you more longevity.

The problem is just the way we’re training. And our lack of activity generally. The way it goes for many people is that they stay very fit and healthy when they’re younger because they run around, play sports and generally en-gage in activity. Once they’re middle aged though, they slow down and they start sitting at the computer all day long.

Their metabolism slows down yes but most of the changes they see in their body are really a result of being constantly stressed and constantly static. This results in muscle imbalances caused by maintaining the same posture for so long and it results in injury when they do get active. Don’t use your back long enough and it’s sure to go when you try and lift that suitcase!

This injury then leads to ‘corrective’ posture and biomechanics. You have a bad knee or back, so you put more weight on the other leg/you hunch over. This in turn means that you actually exacerbate the muscle imbalances that you already had. And the longer this goes on, the more of a hunch and a limp you can start to acquire and the more pain you can expect to experience. The solution is not to be less active but to be more active – while making sure to use the correct technique.

Energy

Meanwhile, staying active can also boost your energy levels and help you to start feeling better. That means the tiredness and sluggishness that we feel as we get older again isn’t inevitable. Actually, when you combine the right exercise regime with the right diet, you can increase not only your heart strength and circulation but also the efficiency of your mitochondria.

Mitochondria are the small ‘energy factories’ of your cells. They exist to help you convert glucose into use able energy (ATP) and their number and strength is one of the big determining factors that influences your energy output and the way you feel. In fact, differences in mitochondria have been suggested to be one of the main differentiating factors between the energy levels of young children and those of older individuals. It’s why kids seem to be able to run around and around in circles for hours screaming, without ever tiring out.

Nutrition

Nutrition is also responsible for a large proportion of the problems you’ll struggle with as you get older. Contrary to popular belief, many of the health issues associated with old age are actually cumulative and result from years of poor nutrition. A lack of nutrients can lead to problems with vision, problems with hormone production, problems with bone density and much more. Thus by eating the right diet, you can stave off numerous con-ditions and stay healthier and stronger into older age.

Toxins, Cell Damage and Heart Problems

Many of the health complaints associated with old age can also be com-bated with the right lifestyle. Sure, it’s always possible to be unlucky and to suffer from cancer with no ‘cause’ as such. But this is much less likely if you are able to protect yourself with the very best, healthy lifestyle choices.

For example, heart disease is one of the leading killers in men by far but it is very much possible to reduce the risk of this problem by getting plenty of exercise and sticking to a diet designed to keep your blood pressure and cholesterol at the most desirable levels.

Brain

The same rules apply to your brain as to the rest of your body. In other words, if you keep your nutrition up and actually keep using your brain it will stay nimble. We’ll get into all of this and a lot more in greater detail in the subsequent chapters but hopefully this is enough of an explanation to make a believer of you.

The point is, you do have control over the way you age and if you take the right precautions then you can stay healthy, mobile and able well into older age. This article is going to act as your road map and your blueprint to help you do exactly that. Follow these tips and you’ll be able to fortify your body against the invading forces of old age!

Shoes and Back Pain

April 27, 2018/in Back Pain Series, Blog, Personal Training

Did you know that wearing inappropriate shoes could cause the back to feel stressed? Shoes are cushions, foundations, and levers that we use to walk, stand, run, job, and so on. If one wears correctly, fitted shoes it will promote a healthy posture. On the other hand, if one wears unsuitable fitting shoes, look out feet and back.

The feet are the number one target the starts normal back pain. In short, the first thing that hits the ground when you start to stand or walk is the ball of your foot, i.e. the heel. Once the heel hits the surface, the remaining sections of the foot start to follow, which promotes weight and stress throughout areas of the body. Feet problems alone can lead to back pain. Poor posture causes back pain, yet the condition is often characterized by inappropriate actions we take.

shoes

Fact: Wearing high-heels will slowly pull the weight of the entire body forward, thus corrupting the posture and arches of the back. Hold your weapons down women, because in time you will feel pain. High-heels are the leading cause of “Spondylolisthesis. In short, terms, spondylolisthesis is a condition that is caused from slipping frontward on the lower back. (Lumbar)

The toes are designed to provide us support, yet when a person wears high-heels it causes the toes to affect the joints, since the toes will narrow, causing weight or pressure to the spine. Now, high-heels are sexy to both men and women, yet these heels are going to cost you a fortune down the road. You can look good in supported shoes that fit comfortably without damaging your ligaments, tendons, nerves, muscles, and so on.

Sorry to pop your bubbles boys and girls, but shoes that support our spine can reduce the odds of experiencing back pain.

How to choose shoes:

Orthotic shoes are recommended. Orthotic shoes will support the feet and weight-bearing joints and muscles. Orthotic shoes have proven to reduce dysfunctions that emerge from the neurological system. In addition, the supportive shoes have proven to reduce injuries and pain emerging from abnormal conditions.

If you are diagnosed with posture conditions, such as osteoporosis, or gait, you can benefit from Orthotic shoes.

Fact: Did you know that you could wear two or more insoles from Dr. Scholl, fitting the insoles into your shoes prior to flipping them over, and achieve balance, which promotes a healthy spine?

Shoes make a difference to our spine, since the feet alone when abnormal can lead to back pain. If you are not wearing, supportive shoes that provide you a comfortable fit, you may want to invest in Orthotic shoes to relieve your back pain.

In addition to shoes, you can perform stretch workouts, and practicing leaning, sitting and lifting strategies to correct your actions and reduce back pain.

Fact: If the spine is misaligned, it can lead to back pain.

Duh, you knew that. Anyway, we misalign the spine when lifting incorrectly, wearing unsuitable shoes, and leaning, or sitting in position, incorrectly. You can correct the problems by getting the ball and chain in motion, and learning about your condition, followed by taking action to relieve your pain.

Fact: Proper lifting starts at the thighs and buttocks. Millions of people lift while relying on the back to hold the weight. Back pain occurs.

When lifting heavy objects, you want to avoid lifting at a distance. At best, you want to avoid bending the knees and expending the trunk perpendicularly.

Prepare to take out your briefcase. Surely, you have around 20 pounds of weight inside the container. Otherwise, consider an object that weighs 20-pounds, unless you have been restricted to lifting.

What you are about to do is lift more than 20-pounds. By the time you get in position and use your muscles, you will have lifted up to 200 pounds. When you lift the briefcase, or other object move close to the subject. Move the trunk or torso in position by placing it over your feet. Remain in position until you have completed your lift.

Unexpected Ways Yoga Can Build Your Career

April 25, 2018/in Blog, Fitness Programs, Workplace Yoga

While we talk about how yoga improves productivity and focus, it does way more than that. Many people say it changes their lives, building their self-confidence to pursue their dreams and find serenity they never knew was possible. These changes offer amazing self-development options, but also ways to build your career in ways you hadn’t expected.

Clearly, yoga is about much more than a workout routine. It’s about bringing mind and body together to work in harmony, and what we learn about ourselves when practicing yoga can be used to build a career we love.

yoga

Yoga Helps You Deal with Stressful Situations

When you become more aware of the way your mind and body work together, you more quickly and easily notice when a stressor is triggering you. With this understanding, you can deal with the stress sooner rather than later so that it doesn’t build up, causing you to react in ways that aren’t beneficial to anyone.

Yoga also gives you the tools to help you work through stressful situations, no matter what they are. You understand that you can choose to be calm by utilizing yoga meditations and breathing when things get tense.

Yoga Teaches You to Surrender to What Is

Usually, our natural reaction to things we don’t like is to fight it. We lash out or complain and make ourselves miserable. Much of what happens to us in our daily lives can’t be fixed or changed, at least by us. Yoga helps you discover the peace within that you can choose rather than rallying against the impossible. Deadlock work traffic, impossible deadlines, timewasting meetings.

These things are irritating, but they need not be as stressful as we make them out to be. By tapping into our inner stillness, that yoga demonstrates that we each have, we can surrender to the way things are and still be content and happy.

Teaches you to be Okay with Your Limitations

Our society teaches us to struggle and strive to be perfect in every way. Anything else is complete and utter failure. Yoga proves this ingrained belief fruitless and ridiculous. In yoga class, no one can do every pose perfectly from the get-go. Even long-time instructors will admit to having certain poses that don’t come easily to them.

Yoga encourages us to be content right where we are and to be gentle with ourselves as we continue to improve on all aspects of our lives, including work duties. Yoga shows us that there is no need for struggle, but that by being compassionate and patient with ourselves, we can do amazing things.
